If you classify logos, you will find that they fit into three broad categories.
- Iconic or Symbols: These generally represent the company or business using either an abstract image or an image that describes the company efficiently. One perfect example of this kind of a logo is the company “Apple” Their symbol of the bitten apple is symbolic of the work and their products.
- Words or Logotype: Fonts is generally how you would describe this kind of a logo. Typically, you will find that the company is spelled or written is a unique font style and that distinguishes it from any other. One look at the color scheme and the font will tell you the brand we are talking about. In this case, both IBM and CNN (television network) can be quoted as fitting examples.
- The combination of the above: A combination of both an icon or a symbol along with lettering makes for a great logo, especially since you are now leaving nothing to the imagination. Starbucks coffee and McDonalds are a perfect example of how you can combine both to achieve a perfect logo.
